SS II - Tues, Aug. 4th

Today's main event was quite the treat!  BMS was able to spend the morning with two professional, Latin Jazz musicians.  The students were introduced to a trombone and a conga drum.  The performance began with some familiar tunes, like the Itsy Bitsy Spider and The Wheels on the Bus, to gain the interest and create a friendly introduction of sorts.  In addition, our musicians spoke of and played some popular music from the Latin Jazz community and how we might use our bodies to recreate how the music made us feel.  Needless to say, there was lots of dancing, adding music of our own with shakers, and lots of smiling and laughter exchanged.  What seems particularly nice about a performance like this, is that it creates a certain aspect of formality and respect, therefore demanding a different kind of focus from the children.  Thanks to all for supporting such a lovely event!

We worked with a special sort of sand this morning (a mixture of sand, flour, and vegetable oil).  The consistency is much like wet sand and is great for squishing and molding.

Juan, Tommy's older brother asks Ella if she would like to dance.  What a sweet and friendly gesture!

We also tried watercolor paints with ice!

Elle has begun to walk! Not only is she taking steps on her own, but today she was able to pick up this ball and walk with it - not an easy task when learning to walk!  We are so excited for her hard work and determination.
