Friday, October 3rd

We played with clay today!  Some of the students have worked with clay in previous years at Buckle, but this was the first time we interacted with clay for the 2014-2015 school year.  This was a very exciting part of our day.  We will continue to revisit clay in a variety of ways that will enhance the relationship that each student develops with the material.

Morning Meeting
  • Name Songs and familiar songs
  • Can you do what I do?  Tapping different body parts
  • Counting fingers and toes

Music/Movement
  • Free play in the gym

Language/Literacy
  • Familiar favorites
  • Related Reading - Leaves

Science/Discoveries
  • Variety Shakers
  • Will this fit?  It drops! - with "logs" (instead of balls)

Art
  • NEW!  Clay – an introductory experience
  • Coloring with crayons

We started many mornings this week with a train set that starts just outside the classroom.

Can you do what I do?

Counting toes and fingers.

When I asked Noam if he wanted to count my fingers he agreed but instead nibbled on them!  I was quite surprised!

Clay!  I cut large slabs of the clay and put them on the ground. Janet and I did our best to let the students explore the material freely, with little instruction.  In future interactions we will talk about vocabulary (smooth, pound, pink, roll…) related to the art form/ experience/ material.

"Cake.  Cake." - Noam, wanting to make cake?  Eat cake?
