Friday, March 20th

Something was particularly right, something I can't explain, about the recipe for today.  It seemed that the students and the teachers were ready to play and learn from each other in a very magical way.  We unexpectedly began a few new investigations and also revisited some more familiar ideas that we’ve recently become interested in.  The class was also introduced to something I like to call face-puzzles or face-mixups.  These puzzles present some interesting opportunities to talk about the features that we share from face to face, but how each of us also looks very different.  A great part of the morning was spent talking about “The Creature” and building a firetruck to save the Three Little Pigs.  Lots of videos were taken today and we hope to get those to you soon!

The students came in this morning to find these familiar faces, but each with some slight adjustments to the arrangements.

Noam went right to his face when he noticed them on the table.  He said, "That's not Noam!"

Misha walked around to each face, excitedly naming his friends.

Janet and the boys were playing with a toy lobster.  Flynn wanted to call it "creature".  Janet suggested that we look at a video of a lobster to learn more about it and see how it moves.  The group was captivated by the actual footage of the animal, living and moving underwater.

Flynn would pretend to get scared and nudge Janet for comfort.  He soon wanted me to be The Creature.

Nicki: What does The Creature do?
Flynn:  He snaps!
(Flynn made a pinching motion with his hands)

Natan loves having the bears sit with him while he snacks!  It was fun to watch him adjust the two large objects and make sure they were each settled nicely in a chair.

When we got to the gym for gym time, Flynn pointed at this assortment of items in the window of the art room, and said, "It's The Creature!"

Flynn slowly crept around the corner to further examine what he had seen through the colored glass.

Janet had the incredible idea of bringing the toy lobster, we had played with earlier, to the gym with us, to enhance the shadow play we've been doing.  The class immediately identified The Creature!  We all ran from The Creature.

Back in the room, Flynn wanted to have The Creature "snap this," just like with the scissors we've been using.

Misha, putting olives on his fingers!  He seems to really enjoy this and giggles.

Reading about tigers.

Upon recognizing his face, Flynn said, "That's a broken me. It's broken."

"Noam is broken"

I found Misha using the bench as a tunnel.  He kept saying, "Tunnel!" He would take the cars and trains all the way through.

Misha and I were building and driving trucks when he noticed the letters on this block.
Misha: M! M!
Nicki: M, yes! M, for who?!
Misha: Misha! Misha!  N!  N, for Noam!

Noam colored the eyes of this lion red.
