Wednesday, March 11th

We took advantage of the warmer temperatures and took a walk today!  The students love to count things in the classroom or in the books we read, so we tried this outside.  Before heading out, the students were told we were going on a bus hunt. Each of us predicted how many busses we thought we would see on our walk.

Predictions:
James: 1
Noam: 2
Ethan: 3
Misha: 1
Flynn: 3 (pigs, instead of busses.  Flynn decided he’d rather search for pigs and the Big Bad Wolf).
Janet: 5
Nicki: 4

What we actually saw and talked about:
  •  1 dog, waiting for his owner.  He seemed very happy to see us.  We all really enjoyed waving at him.
  • 1 (imaginary) pig
  • 6 bikes
  • 1 scooter
Noam: The train. Are we going to the circus?  We need to purchase a ticket.
Nicki:  Noam we are not going to the circus, but we did walk as a big group like this when you went to the circus.
  •  1 USPS truck parked

Noam: I wanna open the door (of the USPS truck). Who’s there? Me!
Flynn: No open door!

Janet:  Does anyone see any circles?
Nicki: Should we pause to look around?  Everyone, freeze!
Flynn: Let’s go!!

Nicki: James, you’ve been very quiet. What do you see?
James: I see worms in the puddles.
  •  5 (more) bikes
  • 9 "balloons"

Ethan: I see balloons!
Flynn: Where? Right there!

We touched all the “balloons” (hanging globes)

Although we all really wanted to go inside, we simply waved and said “hi” to the people working at Balloon Saloon.
Noam: Hi, everyone!
  • we saw 24 ducks in a window
  • 1 truck

Ethan: A truck! A truck!
  •  2 dogs, going for a walk

Ethan: I see two dogs.
James: (while waving) Hi, dogs!
(Flynn then also waves)
  • we saw dog poop (that we avoided!)

We walked over grates - some seemed a little scared, some seemed excited and curious.

Right before heading into school we had to cross a street.  I held out my hand to make sure traffic stopped for us.  Flynn then did the same!

TOTAL BUSES SEEN:  4

Janet and I can't wait to show the boys the photos we took and how our actual outcome matched the predictions!
