Ramonita, Debbie, and I really enjoyed being back at school and playing today. It was fun to meet new students and parents and begin the process of understanding these wonderful individuals. The room is being presented with lots of physical and experiential tasks in order to combat any sadness as we start this session. It is typical that students of this age experience anxiety when separating from a parent or caretaker, something that happens each morning here at school. Toddlers are at a stage of development in which they are learning about object permanence. For a young child, if something or someone is out of sight, it may be unclear to them that, that something or someone will return to them. (This is one of the reasons that Peek-a-Boo is particularly fun at this age!) Something we explored today to accomplish this was working with water and light.
Camille, making music.
Camille's older brother Louis, checking in on her.
Camille and Anna, working with water.
Ana, playing with the farm, placing each animal inside and naming them.
Elle, was instantly intrigued by the pool with balls.
Snack Time!
Camille, helping Elle drink water.
Ana, offering her mom a drum to play.
Elle, taking a look at some of our musical instruments.
Anna seems to like cozy spaces. It was interesting that she grabbed a book a headed here.
Ana, fishing with Debbie.
Our first trip to the gym!
There were many things that seemed to excite Valdi about the gym. This was his first experience in this space.
Anna, hanging!
Circle Time.
I asked Ana if she might like to put a diaper on her baby. She said yes.
She asked for help.
Playing with intriguing lights.
