What a fun day! It was great to welcome some additional students, fresh from our three week break, and continue to learn more about the students we started with yesterday. Everyone is doing a really wonderful job being back at school. As, I mentioned yesterday, it is typical that students of this age experience anxiety when separating from a parent or caretaker, something that happens each morning here at school. Toddlers are at a stage of development in which they are learning about object permanence. For a young child, if something or someone is out of sight, it may be unclear to them that, that something or someone will return to them. (This is one of the reasons that Peek-a-Boo is particularly fun at this age!) In order to combat any sadness as we start this session, it seemed important that we dive into lots of sensory experiences for these experiential and very mobile creatures. Something we explored today to accomplish this was working with sand and glue.
Camille and Anna checking out some fun light sources.
Valdi, surprised by a bubble popping in his face.
Anna was found giving her baby a nice clean diaper frequently today.
Elle in the gym.
Anna hanging! She approached this fearlessly.
Ella putting on my flip flops. This amused us both.
Working with sand and glue.
Ella, dipping her toes in our fishing pond.
