SS1 - Tues, July 14th

We had high hopes of making it to the park today to finally play in the sprinklers, but it started to rain.  None the less, it was nice that we got a little walk in and we will try again on Thursday and Friday to make it to the park.  The kids got super messy today, just as they had the opportunity yesterday.  When learning about a material, like paint or clay or food, it seems of great value to allow for a time and place to use it against skin.  Could it be possible that a toddler must experience a substance like this, on their bodies,  before they can use it as adults intend or understand it to be used?  To allow this impulse seems very necessary, and school couldn't be a better place!

Julia, at the BMS Beach for the first time yesterday afternoon.

Julia, Anna, and Ella getting in some reading before heading outside.

Camille spent a good portion of the morning playing with playdough.  She seemed to enjoy pulling off small pieces.

Cian and Julia were reunited today after four weeks apart.  These two are good friends and were very excited to see each other.

Elle continues to impress us with her mobility.  She's getting stronger at standing, even when the item she is using for support (like this plush, unbalanced platform in the gym) won't stay still.

Valdi is often completely captivated by music when it is on.

Many of the children have expressed great interest in my camera.  I asked Elle if I could take her photo.  She said, "yes," and then, "CHEESE!".

Anna dabbed paint on her chin and said, "chin."

Toys are such an incredible learning tool.  Bear joined us for circle time and then for lunch today.  Often the children seem more receptacle to instructions if Bear receives them instead.  When events or emotions can be redirected through a toy, rather than directly to a child, the information being conveyed is less invasive and hopefully more easily understood.  It's less scary when a student and Bear have to do the same thing.  It's also just more fun when Bear is along for the ride.

In the same way it's fun to have Bear help us through moments, it's also more fun when a friend helps us.  Julia was quick to help Valdi enjoy his lunch.  Julia has an older sister.  Is it possible that Julia has been excited to help younger children in the same way her sister has helped her?

Cian seems to enjoy playing in the kitchen.  Here he instructs Anna that the food is still hot, by saying, "Hot.  Hot."

Cian played the drums for Julia and made-up words to go with his beats.
